It should be true (even though I have not yet tried). In my uncle's house, the tree of கறிவேப்பிலை had a special aroma with the leaves having a special shine. My aunt told that instead of watering the tree, they used to deposit புளித்த மோர், கழுநீர் etc. near the trunk! All their family members (most of them over 60 years of age) do not have vision problem (no spectacles) and only two of them are diabetic! The special aroma of that tree leaves is still green in my memory.
